We are writing with an exciting update – more than 70% of NYU postdocs have signed authorization cards in support of unionization! This show of support will help us when bargaining, to achieve a strong contract like in the recent negotiations between contract faculty (CFU-UAW) and NYU. Among many new rights and improvements in their historic agreement, contract faculty also won groundbreaking protections against bullying behavior and power-based harassment. After years of organizing around this critical issue, these new rights will be extended to all NYU employees in a campus-wide anti-bullying policy.
To celebrate this milestone, we have a few exciting events in the coming weeks:
On Monday 4/13 at 5pm, we are having a sign painting event in Washington Square Park! Come to help paint a union banner and meet union organizers. See this map for location.
On Tuesday 4/21 at 5pm, we will have a union strategy meeting to discuss the next steps for our unionization process. Bring your questions about unionization and the issues that matter most to you. Bring your fellow postdocs too! Reply for more details.
Afterward, on Tuesday 4/21 at 6pm, we are having a happy hour to celebrate our supermajority d.b.a bar (41 1st Ave). Please invite friends and coworkers (cross-union, cross-nyu)!
